The Municipal Museum of Archaeology of Silves was built around an Almohad Cistern Well from the 12th-13th centuries, which became part of the museum's collection.
The museum's collection brings together a set of objects from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, traveling through the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman Period, Medieval Period, with emphasis on the Muslim Period - Umayyad, Califal, Taifa, Almoravid and Almohad, from the 8th to the 13th century, mostly from the Almohad period, from the 12th to the 13th centuries, proof of the wealth and importance of the city in that historical period.
The collection also brings together a set of objects from the modern period – 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, which demonstrate the influence of trade routes and the importance of exchanges and contacts between the city and other regions.
Divided into eight thematic centers, the collection can be visited chronologically from the Paleolithic to the 17th century.
